Dermatology AI for consumer health and skincare apps
Give your users a skin check inside your own app. One photo in, informational condition suggestions out, in under a second.
Live in production across health apps, pharmacy and telemedicine
CE-marked Class I medical device (MDD), MDR Class IIa in progress · MHRA device registered (UK)
Where Autoderm sits in your app
Autoderm is an API layer inside your app. You decide where the skin check appears and what the user sees next. Both stay yours to design.
Your app
The user adds a skin photo inside your app, in your branding.
Autoderm API
CE-marked engine. Five ranked suggestions with confidence.
User guidance
Your app shows information and a clear next step.
Handoff
When needed, your app points the user to a pharmacist or doctor.
Autoderm sits inside your app as a skin feature and returns informational condition suggestions, not a diagnosis. It is not connected to any consultation: the handoff is a step in your app’s own flow.
What the API returns
One call, one image, one structured response. Everything below is available from the first request.
Five ranked condition suggestions per image, each with a confidence score
70+ conditions across nine dermatology categories: benign, pre-malignant, malignant, inflammatory, infectious, genodermatoses, pigmentation, hair and nail
A response in under a second
No identifiable patient data stored. Images are processed and anonymised
A standard REST call and a JSON response, with no SDK lock-in
ICD-10 reference codes alongside each result, for information only
Full white-labelling. No Autoderm branding is visible to users unless the app owner chooses to show it
Where Autoderm stops
Autoderm analyses the image and returns the ranked list. Everything after that is designed by the app owner:
- Whether confidence scores are shown to users
- Where users go for further information on a condition
- What the next step offers: guidance, a product, a pharmacist conversation, a doctor, or nothing at all
- How end user instructions are provided
Autoderm reviews and confirms the compliance of the interface before deployment, so those decisions are made with the manufacturer rather than around it.
The same analysis and interface model runs across Autoderm’s dermatology AI solutions. See the deployments for dermatology AI for online pharmacies, dermatology AI for virtual primary care and dermatology AI for teledermatology platforms.
What the evidence
actually says
Every figure traces to a named study, with full detail on the clinical evidence page.
Top-5 suggestion accuracy
Coachella Study 2025
Zero safety incidents since 2018
Post-market surveillance, MHRA/BfArM/FDA MAUDE/ClinicalTrials.gov. Distinct from user-reported dissatisfaction (image quality), not a safety measure.
Bias evaluated across skin tones
Fitzpatrick17K bias evaluation completed across 26 conditions and FST I–VI. No systemic bias detected. Direct same-model cross-population comparisons available (Sweden FST I–II vs. Uganda FST VI on V0.1), with subsequent dataset diversification in V2.x.

Common questions about the consumer app integration
Can Autoderm be used in a consumer app?
Yes. Autoderm can work inside a consumer app as a skin analytics tool for laypersons, functioning as a search engine, symptom checker, or educational tool to help users find appropriate information about possible skin conditions. The app owner designs the guidance and the next step, and Autoderm confirms the interface before deployment.
Does an app need its own CE marking for the skin check?
For most apps, no. Autoderm operates as API infrastructure and does not require partners to obtain separate CE marking or device registration for the AI feature itself, provided the integration falls within Autoderm’s intended use. See regulatory compliance for the status and the documentation available on request.
Is the output a diagnosis?
No. Autoderm returns informational condition suggestions with confidence levels, not a diagnosis. It cannot give an all-clear result. The end user instructions set this out for users.
When should the app send a user to a pharmacist or doctor?
Whenever a user is worried, whatever the result, or when a lesion has changed, grown or is bothering them. The same applies when the suggestions include skin cancer or a concern is ongoing or recurring. See the intended use and clinical boundaries.
Does a professional review the suggestion before the user sees it?
No. The user sees the suggestion straight away inside the app. What the app shows next, including the handoff to a pharmacist or doctor, is designed by the app owner and confirmed with Autoderm before deployment.
How is user data handled?
No identifiable patient data is stored. Images are processed and anonymised, and the service is GDPR-compliant by design. Autoderm provides a Data Processing Agreement, and the app owner stays responsible for user consent. For consumer-facing apps, legal review of the consent model before launch is strongly recommended.
How is pricing structured?
Pricing is usage-based. The Trial plan includes five free API calls with no credit card required, and the Basic and Enterprise plans are listed on the pricing page. Larger rollouts are scoped with a dedicated success manager.
